LSVT Big Therapy
PROVEN THERAPY FOR IMPROVED MOVEMENT
LSVT BIG® is an evidence-based therapy that helps people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other neurological conditions move more normally.
These conditions often cause people to move slower with smaller, slower gestures and actions. Over time, these changes can cause difficulty getting around, getting dressed and with other daily activities.
LSVT BIG treatment effectively trains improved movements for both small motor tasks, such as buttoning a shirt, and large motor tasks such as getting up from a couch or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves movement by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions that are more like the movements of everyone around them.
How does LSVT BIG work?
This intensive, individualized treatment trains people to increase the size of their movements from head to toe. The sessions use proven strategies for neuroplasticity to help patients re-learn how to move. Going through the program helps patients apply what they learn to make more comfortable, confident movements in everyday life.
