GAINESVILLE, Texas – With more than 37 million people in the United States having diabetes, and another 96 million having prediabetes, learning ways to control and manage the disease have never been more important.
With that in mind, North Texas Medical Center will offer a Diabetes Education Program on the second Thursday of each month starting on Jan. 12. These free classes will take place at Noon in the NTMC Board Room.
This program is designed for adults who have diabetes, or caregivers of a diabetic patient, who want more information on ways to manage the disease. Attendees will learn how to develop a healthy eating and activity plan that works best for them. They will receive tips on medication and reducing risks for short and long-term complications.
The guest speaker for the Jan. 12 program will be NTMC Dietician Audrey Fox. She will explain how our bodies process sugars through digestion and absorption, how carbs are converted into sugars, why our body needs these sugars for energy, and tips and tricks for stable blood sugar.
These classes are free to the public. For more information, email christa.harp@ntmconline.net.
